Tattoo Deposits: What to Check Before You Book
What is a tattoo deposit?
A tattoo deposit is an upfront payment requested by an artist or studio before an appointment. The amount, what it reserves, and how it applies to the final price depend on the artist’s stated policy. Read that policy before paying and keep a copy alongside your receipt.
Before you pay, confirm the appointment details
Match the artist or studio name on the booking page to the account you intended to contact. If a payment link arrives unexpectedly, confirm it using a contact method you already trust. A polished page alone does not establish who is receiving your money.
- Artist or studio name, appointment date, start time and time zone
- Tattoo placement and whether the appointment is a consultation or a tattoo session
- Deposit amount and whether it is credited against the agreed price
- Cancellation, rescheduling and missed-appointment policy
- Whether the quote is fixed, hourly or an estimate
Ask how the remaining balance will be handled
A booking deposit and the final payment are separate steps. Ask when the balance is due, what payment methods the artist accepts, and how additional sessions or changes to the design affect the quote. Do not assume that paying a deposit locks in a final total unless the artist has confirmed it.
For example, if an artist confirms a $400 total and a $100 deposit credited to that total, the remaining balance is $300 before any separately agreed additions. Keep the written quote with the payment record.
Keep a receipt and a booking confirmation
A payment receipt records a payment. An appointment confirmation records a booking. Keep both and check that the date and amount agree. If a checkout says a payment is still processing, look for its final status before trying again.
- Booking reference and artist or studio contact
- Payment date, amount and currency
- Whether the payment is a deposit or remaining balance
- Receipt reference and the latest payment status
- The policy that applied when you booked
If the booking or payment details look wrong
Contact the artist using their known contact details and include the booking reference and receipt reference. Never send a full card number or security code in a message. For a refund request, ask how the artist’s policy applies and keep the response with your records.
InkEthos features and payment availability depend on the artist’s setup. Use the payment methods actually offered on your artist’s booking page; this guide is not confirmation that any individual artist has enabled online checkout.
Common questions
Does a tattoo deposit always come off the final price?
That depends on the artist’s written policy. Ask whether it is credited to the final session, a specific session, or another agreed part of the booking before paying.
Does a receipt prove that my appointment is confirmed?
Check the booking status as well as the payment status. Keep an appointment confirmation showing your artist, date, time and booking reference alongside your receipt.
What if I need to move my appointment?
Contact the artist promptly and check the rescheduling policy accepted when you booked. Ask for the new appointment details and any payment adjustment in writing.
