Your Tattoo Appointment: A Booking and Preparation Checklist
Start with the artist’s work
Look through the artist’s portfolio before choosing a time. Seek examples of the style, scale and placement you want. Ask which photos show healed work and which show fresh tattoos. A flash design may have its own size, placement or repeat-booking conditions, so check those details with the artist.
Reference images help explain a direction. Tell the artist what you like about them and discuss an original design or the terms for booking an available flash piece.
Send the details needed for a useful booking
A clear request helps the artist decide whether the project fits the appointment. Follow the artist’s instructions about references and avoid putting sensitive health information into a public message or gallery caption.
- Your idea and preferred style
- Placement and approximate size
- Reference images or the selected flash design
- Whether this is a new piece, continuation or cover-up
- Dates you can attend and any accessibility or communication needs
Save the appointment and payment records
Check the studio address, appointment time and time zone, expected duration and arrival instructions. Save the confirmation and any receipt in a place you can find on your phone. If the artist gives you a client portal link, keep it private.
Review the deposit and rescheduling policy before paying. A calendar entry is helpful, but if its details conflict with the artist’s confirmation, contact the artist to resolve the difference.
Keep day-of paperwork for the day of your session
In the InkEthos workflow, medical questions and tattoo consent are completed on the appointment day, when the artist can review current answers with you. Booking and paying ahead do not replace that check-in.
Bring the identification and information the studio asks for. Ask the studio directly if you are unsure what is required. For a health concern, get guidance from a qualified healthcare professional; this booking checklist cannot assess whether tattooing is appropriate for you.
Before leaving for the studio
Read the artist’s preparation instructions, check the address and travel time, and contact the studio if you are running late or cannot attend. Keep your phone charged so you can open the confirmation or receipt.
- Appointment confirmation and studio contact details
- Requested identification
- Reference images or approved design notes
- Deposit receipt and agreed balance/payment method
- Any questions you want to discuss before tattooing begins
Before you leave the appointment
Ask for the artist’s aftercare instructions and confirm how to contact them with follow-up questions. Save the final receipt and arrange any next session. If you agree to photographs, clarify whether permission is for private records, public portfolio display or social media; these are different uses.
Common questions
Should I choose a time before discussing a large tattoo?
Follow the artist’s booking instructions. Large pieces, cover-ups and multi-session projects may need a consultation before a tattoo session is scheduled.
Should I complete medical questions as soon as I book?
InkEthos keeps medical questions and tattoo consent for appointment-day check-in. Contact the studio ahead of time if you need to discuss what to bring or have a question about its process.
Can I look at an artist’s work before booking?
Artists can choose what work to show publicly. If the booking page does not include examples of the style you want, ask the artist for their portfolio before reserving an appointment.
